Business Phone Systems: Hosted & PBX
Business Phone Systems have been changing rapidly over the past couple of years. In the past, almost all phone systems where hardware based, and proprietary to that system. Over the past 3-5 years, the movement to software based platforms is becoming more popular. Within this space you still have the traditional PBX platforms, some hardware based and some software based, but you now have newcomers in the Hosted platforms space that have made it easier to service, install, and keep up with all the changes people want without the capital expense. We feel that the Hosted platform is best suited for the 1-20 handset user client, while PBX is still strong with clients over 20 users for purchase. Having said this, we see a wide array of company choices and needs, thus very hard to give a nod to one or the other without doing DEMO’S on each product type. Once we have reviewed these options, we will recommend a phone vendor choice, order the services, proactively coordinate installs, and be a partner you can count on through the duration of the contract, and subsequent renewals.
Hosted business phone systems have become a very popular topic over the past couple of years, and has taken the market by storm with a new strategy to be more nimble for software applications then the older PBX systems. Hosted offers the flexibility to have a system that will never be out-dated, can be self-maintained or supported remotely, very flexible for remote workers, and very flexible for mobility or collaboration. Many times we can get your company into a new Hosted platform for little or no cost.
PBX business phone systems are still going strong! The existing PBX vendors have been working hard to stay ahead of the Hosted platforms by adding in software applications, “virtualization”, Unified Communications, that along with some old PBX features such as, paging, presence, chat, recording, conference bridge and others … still makes it hard to beat for many larger client needs. As mentioned above we believe that when you get to a total number of handsets users above 20, then still buying a PBX is a good long term cost structure; also, most of the PBX vendors will include software upgrades and maintenance packages that keep your system up to date.
